Rozen Steelworks Installs $3 Million Protective Fences on High Level Bridge

Rozen Steelworks Inc. is working with the City of Edmonton to provide preventative barriers on the High Level Bridge. Rozen Steelworks was chosen for this high-profile structural steel project based on their ability to deliver their high-quality products on time and on budget.

Jonathan Rozendaal, founder and President of Rozen Steelworks, is thrilled about the venture, and not just because it is a great project for his company. Rozendaal and his team are very invested in the community and enjoy having the opportunity to work on projects that have a positive effect on so many people; in this case, a project that saves lives.

Will the barriers work? Yes. In 2015, Slate Magazine cited a report that shows up to a 90 per cent death reduction rate in high-risk areas when prevention methods such as barriers and nets were provided.

“I think it’s a very positive step for our community,” said Coun. Bev Esslinger. “We all know someone who’s been affected by suicide. We know that barriers are one method of causing a pause. Moving forward, we know that that’s going to really be a deterrent and, we hope, save lives.”

Another person that is thrilled with this project is Dan Klemke since he has such a personal connection the to issue. In 2013, his wife jumped from the bridge. Klemke has pushed city council since that year to make jumping a less accessible option. “I can’t sit back and see something that needs to be done and ignore it,” he said, noting that the barriers could save people who are in the “moment”.

The High Level Bridge is a famous landmark in Edmonton; the barriers must not be an eyesore. This is not a problem for the company whose recently expanded facilities and new state-of-the-art equipment are capable of creating structural steel projects that blend seamlessly into their surroundings. Rozen is using stainless steel mesh and high tension wires in the project. The barriers will be complete this summer.

The company, whose processes have gained them the praise and recognition of some of the most recognized names in the energy industry, is thrilled to be part of a solution to a centuries-old problem. By doing what they do best, steel fabrication, they are changing the course of people’s lives.

Rozen Steelworks wishes to thank the City of Edmonton for the opportunity to work on this community-enhancing project, along with their hardworking staff and all their supporters.

Stay tuned for more news of their high-profile projects in and around the area.
