Opta East TFT (Thin Fine Tailings) pump barges and walkway system

Rozen Steelworks successfully completed a major fabrication project for the Opta East Thin Fine Tailings (TFT) system, delivering a comprehensive solution designed for efficient and reliable tailings management. This project encompassed the fabrication and pre-commissioning of two (2) advanced TFT pump barges, four (4) associated barge side pontoons, and an intricate four-module anchor platform.
Each anchor platform unit was meticulously designed, featuring a dedicated module to house step-down transformers, main motor power supply junction boxes, discharge piping, and other critical systems for each pump barge. This was complemented by a specialized mooring winch module and a crucial module providing a laydown or staging area for on-site maintenance.
A single fully assembled pump barge, including its associated components, weighed an estimated 209 Metric Tons. Our scope included the complete full assembly and dry commissioning of these massive units, culminating in a rigorous Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) to ensure peak performance. Following successful testing, the entire system was carefully dismantled and prepared for shipment to the site.
A key aspect of this project involved developing a highly optimized shipping plan. This plan strategically reduced on-site assembly requirements by breaking down components into precise shipping envelopes, maximizing efficiency and minimizing field work. Furthermore, we developed a detailed Load List for all modules and shipped loose materials, ensuring clear identification of crated contents. We also provided a comprehensive site storage and preservation plan, demonstrating our commitment to post-delivery success. Rozen Steelworks also provided essential support for the supervision of the assembly work carried out by other contractors on site.
